WHAT IS A JIB CRANE?
Jib cranes are lifting hoists used for small to medium load capacities, usually below 10 tonnes. A jib crane can be a pillar jib, wall-mounted jib, or ceiling-mounted jib. Each has its unique advantages and it’s always best that you consult with a sales engineer who can help you assess your lifting needs before you make a decision as to which type of jib configuration you would like.
Jib cranes often feature a lightweight design, with a sturdy jib arm made of steel, aluminium or alloy material. If the jib is on a pillar, it is anchored to the floor using heavy-duty bolts. These types of hoists are also usually electrical and require minimal operation knowledge from users. The lifting mechanism is commonly a wire rope hoist, with an electrically powered trolley.
Ceiling-mounted and pillar-mounted jib cranes offer the benefit of 360-degree slewing, which is the rotation of the jib arm around the z-axis of the pillar or ceiling.
This slewing is also electrically driven to ensure smooth travel of the jib arm. The pillar on which the jib arm is secured is precisely welded, with internal support structures to ensure safety and stability.
Because jib cranes are not commonly used for heavy loads, they have a high lifting speed starting around 12m/min but the speed can be higher.
ADVANTAGES OF A JIB CRANE?
When installation conditions are tight, particularly in terms of space, a wall-mounted or ceiling-mounted jib crane is a great lifting option for its precise movement and optimised lift height.
There are options for mounting the jib crane as well including using steel supports as wall mounting, on reinforced concrete walls using brackets, on reinforced concrete using weld-on plates, with steel supports using weld-on plates, and on reinforced concrete.
