OVERHEAD CRANES

In essence, 90% of cranes are overhead cranes whether they are stationary, moveable, manual or
automatic. A pulley system, which is what a crane is based on, involves pulling a load at a vertical
incline and then horizontally using a rope-and-gear or chain-and-gear mechanism. Of course, a crane
is a highly refined and specialised form of pulley. If you are looking to optimise your operations, an
overhead crane can save you a great deal of time and money, creating better efficiency and safety
for your workers.

OUR RANGE OF OVERHEAD CRANES & LIFTING EQUIPMENT

GANTRY CRANES

Gantry cranes are some of the biggest cranes in the world and have uses in industries where heavy-duty lifting is required. If you are lifting anything greater than 20t, it might be applicable for your operations to use a gantry crane or a overhead crane derivative. Let RGM Cranes help you to find the correct gantry crane solution for you.

Typical load capacity ranges from 20t to 100t or over for purpose-built gantries.

WIRE ROPE HOIST CRANES

Wire rope hoist cranes come in manual and electric variations. Depending on your operational needs, in particular the size of your business and the loads you will be lifting, RGM Cranes can recommend the correct wire rope hoist crane for you. We will help you calculate the duty cycle required and make recommendations based on frequency of use.

Loading capacities are manual- and electric-dependent, with manual wire rope hoists limited to less than 10t and electric ones ranging from 12t to 100t.

OPEN WINCH CRANES

Our range of Electric Chain Hoists can handle 150kg to 10 000kg loads(light-heavy) and offer the highest level of build quality, and are suited to a broad range of applications. As the sole distributor of Guralp, no other service provider os netter suited to ensure you have the ideal product for your specific needs and budget.

AUTOMATED CRANES

One of RGM Crane’s flagship brands is the Guralp range of automated cranes. We offer standard double girder cranes, overhead cranes and warehouse cranes which are all automated to your specifications. The single bridge girder cranes are supported on two end trucks with a trolley which runs on the bottom flange of the bridge girder.

CUSTOM CRANES

Sometimes, an off-the-shelf gantry crane solution is not enough to meet your unique operational needs. In this case, you need a custom crane solution that optimises efficiency while also remaining within budget. At RGM Cranes, our skilled technicians and sales staff can help you tailor a custom crane solution that will make sure that your business operations run smoothly.

SINGLE GIRDER CRANES

Single girder overhead traveling cranes are the most commonly found type of crane in the overhead crane industry. It consists of a single girder (or beam) with a hoist being suspended on the bottom plate of the beam.

DOUBLE GIRDER CRANES

A double girder overhead crane is comprised of two girders with the hoist (crab unit) running on rails mounted on top of the girders. Double girder overhead cranes are typically used where the operational processes demand either a greater lifting height or where more specialised process such as load turning is required.

JIB CRANES

Jib Cranes fill the gap where conventional handling methods are impractical and come in many guises to suit your needs.

Our jib cranes can be mounted on a wall or column where rotation is limited.

SEMI PORTAL CRANES

Semi portal cranes have one wheelset on the floor or ground-based rail and the other wheelset on an elevated gantry rail. The selection of this type of crane is often due to a very specific application or most commonly when building limitations dictate as such. RGM Cranes designs all overhead cranes in-house in strict adherence to local and international standards, all drawings are conceptualized before being sent for client approval.

CONSIDER YOUR LOAD CAPACITY

You should always start with the load capacity as your first consideration. If your average load is below 5t, then you can use a jib crane which uses a chain hoist mechanism. These cranes are meant for infrequent use in their manual form and if electrical, their duty cycle increases likewise. You will be able to use an electrical chain hoist much more than a manual one. But if this is not a necessity, then you should not spend more money than is appropriate for your operations and budget.e end hook approach and the side hook approach.

WIRED ROPE HOISTS AS AN OVERHEAD SOLUTION

Wire rope hoists are the leader in overhead cranes and come mostly in electric form. These can be put to use for varying load capacities over 5t up to 100t sometimes. This is because of the tensile strength of the wire rope itself and the fact that the entire crane is generally more durable and made of stronger materials because it lifts heavier loads. Some of the biggest wire rope hoists in the world are gantry cranes and portal cranes. For standard operations, single girder and double-girder wire rope hoists are used. These are mounted above the area where a load is to be lifted and where it must be placed. They are able to carry the load vertically, and then horizontally to where it needs to be placed. This is all done automatically, so that all your workers need to do is learn the controls and then the overhead crane can be used. There are many other considerations to make when choosing an overhead crane such as duty cycle, hoisting speed, the motor power output and overall safety of the crane – but these are decisions RGM Cranes is more than happy to help you make. Our team of specialist salespeople and technicians are always willing to lend a hand and guide you in your crane-purchasing journey.
