AUTOMATED CRANES

One of RGM Crane’s flagship brands is the Guralp range of automated cranes. We offer standard double girder cranes, overhead cranes and warehouse cranes which are all automated to your specifications. The single bridge girder cranes are supported on two end trucks with a trolley which runs on the bottom flange of the bridge girder. The load capacities for these are usually below 16t and their average height restriction is 25m. Single girder overhead cranes are more economical than their double girder counterparts. You need to consider the crane’s use carefully.

For example, if you are operating in a heavy rainfall environment like a dock, lifting crates or even heavy loads like shipping containers, you need a crane that can be reliable despite the ensuing weather conditions. In this case a hydraulic automated crane might be your best choice since, a simple adverse weather phenomenon can interrupt an electrical supply, leaving you in a dangerous situation if your load is still suspended in the air. This solution is suited for a high duty factor environment where many loads are lifted at shorter intervals. However, there are also other situations where automated cranes also play a significant part: precision systems. In fact, automatic cranes can be programmed to work quite well in precision environments.

THE HISTORY OF AUTOMATED CRANES

Automated cranes are a recent development in the history of hoist technology. The first known crane is widely believed to be the shadouf, a water-lifting device from ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt. But prototypical automated cranes emerged around the Steam Age from the late 1700s to early 1900s. Although these cranes did require that people stoke the fires to produce the steam which operated them, they managed to free people and animals from the yoke of hard labour. Nowadays, automated cranes work with electric motors, internal combustion engines, hydraulics or a mixture of the three. The best automated hoist cranes leverage the unique advantages of each power source to manage often complex lifts in the face of varied operational and environmental conditions.
