Custom Cranes

Sometimes, an off-the-shelf gantry crane solution is not enough to meet your unique operational needs. In this case, you need a custom crane solution that optimises efficiency while also remaining within budget. At RGM Cranes, our skilled technicians and sales staff can help you tailor a custom crane solution that will make sure that your business operations run smoothly. If you have pored over numerous motorised gantry catalogues but still come out unsatisfied, customisation is your best option. Whether it’s choosing the right crane components, such as a scissor clamp for moving concrete and marble slabs or custom insulated conductor rails, we can help you across all points of choosing your perfect crane.

DEMAG CUSTOM CRANES CASE STUDY

The PM2, considered the highest capacity paper machine in the world produces 80g/m2 corrugated cardboard continuously, at a rate of 1,650 m/min for 30 hour stretches. This corrugating medium is then filled into reels as 1,800m of base paper every minute. The challenge was to create a hoisting solution which would allow for these reels to be lifted and carefully placed into storage at an optimal rate. Load capacity is mostly consistent but falls around the 130t mark.

High production output demanded custom cranes which are reliable, especially in terms of handling the PM2 paper output. Handling systems which are logistically smooth and handle in a consistent manner at every stage throughout production needed to be created. Demag crafted a tailor-made solution in the form of a master-slave mode in two synchronised custom hoist units, which not only increased safety but also ensured successful processing.

At the height level of the PM2, three automated process cranes were also employed and fitted with vacuum units to ensure that unpacked rolls were gently packed into storage. The cranes can stack the rolls in the form of towers in two bays, up to a height of 17.5m.
